HI-LINE L & LX SOLAR SYSTEMS

If your home is in a temperate or tropical location, which is not subject to frost, and you have good quality drinking water, then the L Series system is ideal. This system operates on the natural thermosiphon principle, i.e. when water is heated it rises. The L Series system directly heats the water as it passes through the collectors and then automatically circulates it back into the storage tank.

For areas which experience frost or snow and perhaps have less than reliable water quality, the Edwards LX Series system is the only choice. It uses the highly efficient heat transferring properties of a special anti-freeze fluid to transfer the absorbed energy to heat the water indirectly. With an ‘indirect system’ water does not pass though the collector panels, instead the antifreeze mixture is circulated from the collectors through a jacket which is wrapped around the storage tank, transferring the heat into the water.

This process continues whilst the sun is shining, giving you and your family hot water free from the sun. The storage cylinders for all Edwards roof-mounted solar water heaters are constructed from long life stainless steel. Stainless steel acts as a natural barrier to corrosion. Therefore, Edwards stainless steel systems do not require a sacrificial anode and are virtually maintenance free

LO-LINE GROUND GTS & GTD SYSTEMS

The Edwards GTS all climate solution is a split solar water heater with roof mounted solar collectors and a ground mounted storage cylinder. It is suitable for use in low to high solar gain areas. The heat exchange design makes it suitable for regions prone to frost, protecting the collectors from damage that may be caused by freezing.

The Edwards GTD is an open solar water heater consisting of roof mounted solar collectors and a ground mounted cylinder. The solar collectors generate energy which is transferred directly to the water as it passes through the collector. An automatic, temperature controlled pump circulates this hot water from the collectors to the cylinder. The GTD is not suitable for use in frost prone areas.

SOLAR HEAT PUMP

The basic principle of a Heat Pump water heater is similar to a refrigerator working in reverse. When hot water is drawn off and cold water enters the tank, the thermostat activates a fan, a compressor and a circulator. The fan draws outside air in through the air inlet louvres at the top of the water heater and the pump circulates water from the bottom of the storage tank and through a heat exchanger. Heat is absorbed from the air by an evaporator and transferred into the water through the heat exchanger. The resulting cold air is then discharged through the air outlet louvres back to atmosphere and the heated water is circulated back into the top of the storage tank. This process continues while ever heating is required until the water in the storage tank reaches a temperature of 60°C.
